About the library

General information

 Novosibirsk Regional Universal Research Library is the leading library in the Novosibirsk region.

After receiving the official status of Central  Library of the Novosibirsk region in 2009, the library became regional depository  and Regional Center For Rare Books Preservation.

The library is a methodological, coordination and ethnographic center for the 806 libraries of the region

The office of Novosibirsk Library Society is located at the NRURL.

The NRURL is a member of the Russian Library Association, the Association of Regional Library Consortium,
LIBNET and a participator of a joint catalog of Russian libraries.

Library priorities:

  • implementation of new information technologies;
  • free access to information;
  • quality customer service

The staff is a team of 170 employees.

The library services are used by almost 40 thousand patrons annually, they check out more
than 830 thousand documents. The annual visits are 170 thousand, the number of remote users is increasing from year to year.

The NRURL holdings, information resources and technologies meet all the requirement of a modern library.

The library provides wire and wireless (Wi-Fi) access to local and global networks.

The NRURL was the first library in Novosibirsk to switch to electronic library records in all its divisions (2006).

Joining the library is free since 2008.

The NRURL is a cultural center. Every year it hosts more than 140 various cultural events such as book exhibits,
book and music programs, meetings with writers, guests of Novosibirsk, book presentations, library tours and others.

A library cultural center named "The House of Tsvetaeva" is famous and popular in the city. It was founded
in 1994 and brings together many creative people of Novosibirsk. Scientists, artists, composers and actors
perform at "The House of Tsvetaeva" sessions.

Meetings with Novosibirsk artists, both professional and amateur, whose pictures are exhibited at the library
on a regular basis became a tradition.

Every year the library publication and printing office publishes about 25 historic, methodological
and bibliographical materials.

In 2008 the Governor of the Novosibirsk region Viktor Tolokonsky made a decision to have a new library building erected
that would meet the highest world library and information technology standards.

In 2010 the new Governor Vasily Yurchenko emphasized that he is not afraid of any difficulties that might arise in connection with a new library building.. The new building is planned to be completed by 2013.
